Castle Hill Farm Cottages, Berkhamsted

We were asked by the client in June 2016 to help them achieve planning permission for a significant extension to their small historic cottage, located in Green Belt on the edge of the town. The design and planning application needed to be turned around in less than a month as the clients were emigrating at the end of the summer and needed the approval prior to leaving the country.

The existing layout of the compact cottage, together with the restrictions of being located within Green Belt presented some challenging constraints.

Our solution, to build over the existing single storey wing together with remodelling the first floor of the original 2 storey cottage, has created an additional bedroom and ensuite for the main bedroom.

Planning permission was received within 8 weeks of submission, without any alterations being required and minimal conditions being applied.
