The project comprises the design of a standalone teaching block over 3 storeys. As well as the classroom accommodation, the brief included a requirement for the new building to form a statement to the community and a new main focal point for the school’s presence in the urban setting.

 

Our design evolved in close consultation with the school and the local planners. The school’s budget required that the building be as efficient and economical as possible whilst still having a feeling of high design quality.

 

The accommodation includes:

• 13 general classrooms

• 2 specialist IT classrooms

• WC accommodation

• Staff areas

• Multi-use space

 

The design benefits from attention to detail internally and externally in particular with a carefully articulated façade and separate double and triple height volumes creating interesting internal spaces.

 

The scheme received planning permission in September 2019, was tendered in Jan 2020 and started on site in July 2020, completed in August 2021.
